(supporting The Quireboys)

Mean Fiddler, London - Thursday 25th October 2001

Another London gig for the AP crew supporting another has-been band on the comeback trail. This time it's The Quireboys fans who get the full schlock-horror UV war experience and, as per usual, half the crowd love it and half the crowd are utterly bemused. Tonight we get the rugby players dancing around loving every minute, with ALex riding on one's shoulders before falling off. We also get the heckles from one grizzled old rocker who obviously doesn't appreciate anything post-1989, put down with a terse 'Hey fuck you man or I'll shave your bald head.' from Mr Kane. We also get the tale of last time AP played at this venue (Five Miles High in January - for those short on the memory front) when Alex decided to try and break the floor with his head. So what does he do? CLIMB THE SPEAKER STACK! STAGE DIVE FROM THE EXACT SAME SPOT ON THE STAGE WHERE HE MISSED THE CROWD LAST TIME! Go on then.

And the songs? We get the usual suspects, 'Hey, Let's Get It On', 'Rules We Rock N Roll By' and 'Bungee Jumping People Die', plus a newie making its London debut entitled 'Turning Me On' which, in all honesty ain't that great, but it's a work in progress and is bound to grow on me like a fungus sooner or later. By the time AP reach 'Arms Around The World' Alex has broken a guitar, an amp, and a microphone, so much so that we have virtually no vocals for the rest of the gig, fortunately the crowd knowing all the words to 'Supergirl' and 'I Live In England' makes things a lot easier.

Another show, another crowd won over (well I'm not sure about the faux-VIP room) and another victory for our favourite reprobates, everyone leaves stickered and happy.

Oh yeah, the headliners. Truth is, I've never been a big fan of the Quireboys and apart from 'Hey You' and 'There She Goes Again' I don't think they've got a decent song to smack you round the head with. Yeah the crowd love it, and they seem on form but it does nothing for me. Sorry guys.
