TAT. Short, sharp and to the point, their
name doesn't waste time and this is reflected in their music - there is
no bullshit to be found here whatsoever. Forget all those up and coming
bands who preach the wonders of the unusual. Do not listen to them, for
what the music industry could do with at the moment is not art-rock, TV
pop or radio rock, but a good old fashioned slap round the face with
some rock that is both uplifting and energising. TAT are just the band
to do this and are fronted by the focussed teenage punk goddess Tatiana
DeMaria. Truly talented, she's the chief songwriter and also guitarist
whilst displaying a powerful voice that sits far above Avril Lavigne.
Don't let this similarity fool you though, for TAT are the band that
Avril can only dream of.
After just one listen to the bouncing, ragged edges of the single
'Pessimist', it is easy to see why they were chosen to open for The
Offspring earlier this year, 4 minutes of roaring ska-dipped punk is
finished off by a wail of 'I love yoooou!' from one of the audience who
witnessed them play at Reading 04.
Having recorded not only the single but the two b-sides 'Bloodstain' and
'Happiness' live, TAT really manage to prove that they are not just one
of those bands who fall flat on their face when confronted with an
audience. This is proper screeching, angsty rock that still lifts your
mood and brings a smile to your face in the case of 'Happiness'.
Expect to hear much, much more from these young but oh-so wise artists
in the next year.
