The British are coming, so
run! Run to your computer or record store and order "Tonight The Midway
Shines" from U.K. sleaze meisters, The*Ga*Ga*s.
This is melodic rock with an alternative edge, ala, Foo Fighters and The
Cult. It has melodies, hooks, riffs, wah pedal and singer songwriter
Tommy Gleeson, carries these songs to new heights. Along with the help
of a great band, guys who can really play and sing backing vocals. Guys,
who look as much Goth, as they do Sunset Strip Hollywood Glam Trash.
This ain't retro, this is Resurretro or "erogenous rock". That's as
sleazy as, a porn shop in the Valley.
They're not making some, hyped up rock fashion statement here. They are
actually delivering the goods and giving us music and songs that we can
believe in. All with an attitude we haven't seen since G-N-R or The
Wildhearts. It's no coincidence that it was Wildheart main man, Ginger,
who introduced Tommy, to bad ass bassist, Toshi. Now add to this, guitar
shredder, Rob Willis and drummer J. and you've got quite a band. One,
that has songs and is ready to take on the world, kicking every ass
along the way.
"Tonight The Midway Shines", their debut, was released this past
February and is a CD all about the music. No matter how many videos they
make or how many pictures they take with naked women. Just check out the
wah pedal and chunky rhythms of, "Sex", with its space trippin' vocals,
and there's the 'ready for alt-radio to pick up' should be a hit, "Crash
And Burn" or the hard driving rocker called "Breaking America". Check
out the scorching guitar on "Replica" and "Swallow Me". But the one
thing that's gonna grab you, will be the voice of Tommy, singing his
heartfelt lyrics of lost love and tragic relationships.
This isn't emo rock, cuz if it is, then this, is what it should sound
like. These darker moments were inspired by Tommy's heart being ripped
out by some Canadian young lady. The band even channels this through
their music. This would be on so many CD's Of The Year lists, if only
someone in the U.S. would help this awesomely tuned music machine to,
BREAK AMERICA!
