Like a four-headed rock monster on heat, Silver Ginger 5 are vicious and horny in equal parts. In short, a bit like, no, in fact exactly like Godzilla with a full-on, fuck off hard on. The brain child of all 'round rock n' roll hero
Ginger, Silver Ginger 5 first took form as a one man mission to bring
big tunes with big hooks and big choruses back and bang up to date. Joining the man with the plan in the studio was 'Random' Jon Poole (on hiatus from bass action from The
Cardiacs) and drummer Bladz (then of
the Yo-Yo's) amongst others including a horn section and gospel choir. Silver Ginger 5's first masterpiece takes the name
'Black Leather
Mojo' and was initially put out in Japan by Mercury and is making it's official UK release through Infernal Records in the Autumn of 2001 (complete with bonus CD showcasing yet more SG5 tinged madness).
In the live arena (natch) Ginger is joined by the giant and Swedish Conny Bloom on guitar and 'Random' crunches bass (ironically, a mammoth search for the ultimate SG5 bassist pleasingly landed the band with the man who helped make the record in the first place). Tom Broman is the band's other Swede and resident God of Thunder/ drum pummeller and together with a swish combination of spangly confetti, flame pots and pyro and the odd (read: constant) afterburner
firework-a-rama (not forgetting the feathers, never forget the feathers.), "The SG5" (like describing the Motor City 5 as the MC5, only with more in the way of legendary overtone -
© me) make supreme superstar noise. The stadium ain't big enough for the band and you - and you know you'd better believe it. Yeah. kiss this KISS.
