Back in early '97 there was a fairly unremarkable meeting of some "musicians" that resulted in some kind of vague idea of a band. This "band" threw around badly-executed rock covers and a whole lotta big ideas. They had fun, but in a climate of stale grunge cliches and britpop pap they just got confused. The band quickly disintegrated from five to three core members, Kris on vocals, Robb on Bass and G on guitar. They were angry but lusted for lime-light, not really sure what they wanted to play, but ended up being influenced by Joy Division, early
Manics, and some vague punk ideas.
It was these "punk ideas" that got them noticed; screaming, instrument destruction, audiences abused and offended. But alas, drummers continued to come and go with alarming regularity, until emerging like a pheonix from the ashes of a local punk band, 'Fast' Johnny C took the mantle that he was born to, and bands like
The Wildhearts, Gold Blade, Rocket
From The Crypt and
The Yo-Yo's started to have chemical reactions in the groovey asses of these young turks- and
Psycho A Go-Go became the true force de rawk they now are...the purest blend of 50s rockabilly, 70s punk and 90s rock.
Psycho A Go-Go are no strangers to the Aberdeen music scene, having gigged in almost every city venue, as well as playing shows around Scotland.
With a series of support slots with big name bands including
AntiProduct, Capdown, Plan
A, and The Wildhearts under
their belt they have also undertaken two headline UK tours.
The Whisky Chaser EP, Psycho A Go-Go's debut release, is available nationally from Virgin Records, locally from One-Up Records, Retro Blue Records and Fopp Records, as well as online at
ChangesOne.
Sadly Psycho A Go-Go decided to call it
quits in 2003. Arse. |
