| Biography |
Formed by vocalist Ant after parting ways
with Nottingham Punk n'Rollers The Rockitts, The foursome, all in their early 20's have since been compared to everyone from
The Wildhearts to Elvis, have been touted as "The British Hives" and played gigs with
Backyard Babies (Swedish), Cellophane Suckers (German) and
Anti-Clockwise (Portuguese).
The group combine trashy sleaze punk, T-Rex tinged glam and an innate punk-pop sensibility more reminiscent of
Green Day with a sense of fun and style derived from somewhere between 90's grunge and 50's Rock N' Roll. It's a clash of styles that work together to create a guitar driven melodic pop noise that is truly distinctive.
On stage the band are as striking visually as their
sound, frontman Ant merges Elvis edged cool with sharp suited mod-swagger, ever resplendent in a pin-stripe suit and tie, and never staying in one place. To his right Guitarist Kirt oozes her own distinctive style, in trashy dresses, knee booths and
goth-glam chic. To Ant's left bassist Marc is a whirlwind of glamour, pouting his way across the stage in flares and heavy eyeliner, throwing shapes and never staying still. And at the back is drummer and Producer Doug keeping the trio grounded with a solid and dependable style of his own.
Since the groups first gig, headlining to a packed house at Nottingham's legendary Rock City in July 2001 they've gigged across the country, taking in London, Manchester, Leicester and their native Nottingham and have built up a reputation as a solid and hugely entertaining live act who work hard to win over any crowd. The Pittstops number
Sahara
Hotnights, The Hives, Backyard Babies and
Dog Toffee as fans, and their popularity increases with every gig.
The bands debut album, recorded across a week in February 2002 features guest slots from guitarist Brent Muscat
(Faster Pussycat) and saxophonist Steve Borth (RX Bandits) is planned for a September release on Spin Out Records (The Label that launched Consumed, amongst others). In the mean time the group have two releases sold at gigs:
'SMS', a garage-punk stormer of a single, and 'If I Told You', a 2 minute jet of sublime duel-vocal sugar-punk, both backed with extra tracks and a cover version (Buddy Holly's 'Oh Boy' and
B*Witched's 'Blame It on The Weatherman' respectively), both have sold very well and received widespread acclaim.
The Pittstops split in 2004. |
