Hailing from the city of churches, Muscle
Car deliver a high-octane, fuel-injected style of glam-punk rock. Fast,
heavy, melodic, and catchy as hell, these guys with leopard skin amps and
rock moves aplenty are proving that great rock isn't solely restricted to
Scandinavia and the US. They're a prime example of the original
rock'n'roll currently emanating from Australia and New Zealand.
Since Muscle Car debuted on the Adelaide gig circuit in February of 1999,
the band has performed consistently tight, sonically intense, energetic,
and visually action-packed live shows, including support act slots with
The Ataris (USA) and the legendary Hard-Ons (AUS). In the
process, Muscle Car have built up a dedicated and loyal local and
interstate following. With influences and likes including AC/DC,
Backyard Babies, Buzzcocks, Cheap Trick, Donnas,
Hellacopters, Kiss, MC5, Motley Crue,
Motorhead, Ratcat, Ramones, The D4, Turbonegro,
and The Wildhearts, you can see that
the band have their heads fixed firmly on their shoulders.
Muscle Car's first recorded output was a
split 7-inch vinyl release in November 1999 with fellow Adelaide noise
merchants, the Gels, featuring "Queen of Noise". The next release, in
May 2001, was the "Sandra Sully" CD-EP, a stomping Ramones-ish ode to
the late-night news presenter. The EP raised the bands national and
international profile, as evidenced by the number of MP3 downloads of
the song on the Internet, and saw a UK distributed release on the
Changes One label, reaching #1 on the London shops highest sellers
chart. Muscle Car have a selection of tracks on numerous overseas record
label compilation albums (from Japan, Sweden, USA and UK), including the
forthcoming New York Dolls and Zodiac Mindwarp tributes (see
discography).
The third independent offering from Muscle Car on Mondo Bizarro Records,
the "Single as Usual" CD-Single/EP, hit the stores in late September
2003, reaching #2 on Adelaide's 3D-FM Top 20+1 on 23 October. Following
from the recent launch in Melbourne, a tour to Sydney, Brisbane and
Perth is scheduled for next Feb/March. Also planned for early 2004 is an
East-Coast Australian tour in support of all-girl hard rockers,
Broadzilla (USA), along with Gazoonga Attack (Bris). On the
International front, American Artists Agency (Ca., USA), are currently
negotiating for Muscle Car to undertake a 3-week UK tour, in support of
a major UK band of similar genre, next June/July. Tours to the USA and
Japan have also been mooted. With the new single, which also includes
the riotous "Hell Yeah, Let's Rock! (featuring guest 'duet' vocals from
Elea Logan of Gazoonga Attack), revealing a more refined sound for the
band and a full-length album in the pipeline, Muscle Car ask only that
you pay attention to the needs of your ears and give them a shot of the
rock action that only Muscle Car can provide. With all this going on,
the band have themselves securely fastened in for a helluva kickass rock
n roll ride. Welcome to Rockville, baby! |
