MISS BLACK AMERICA come from a stuck-up nothing town in Southeast Middle England, where you either leave town when you leave school or face an eternity of boredom in an office or factory; where you either spend your days rotting away in safe domestic hell, or find your salvation through rock 'n' roll.
So far in our brief but drunken career, we've supported the Dandy Warhols, Dum Dums, Dope Smugglaz, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Matthew Jay and Fruitbat from Carter USM's new band, abdoujaparov. In April 2000, we turned down a request to write a song for the Pokemon soundtrack. Our debut EP, The Adrenaline Junkie Class-A Mentalist EP, was released in May 2001 and picked up by Radio One DJs John Peel and Steve Lamacq,
following which we recorded a Peel Session for Radio One, broadcast in July 2001. Our second single, Don't Speak My Mind, came out in October 2001 on Dental Records, and also received Radio One airplay.
In August 2001 we signed to Bedford-based Integrity Records, and a single (produced by Smiths/Terris
producer Gavin Monaghan), Infinite Chinese Box, hit the shelves in
February 2002. The album
God Bless
Miss Black
America followed shortly after.
We are the eloquent scream that will shock people out of their waking sleep. We believe that no-one is useless or stupid, no-one's head is empty; that our ambitions and opinions are valuable because they make us what we are, they make us special, they make us powerful; that if we fight hard enough, we can accomplish anything; that the best thing about the past is that it's gone forever; that the future begins RIGHT NOW.
We are your future, staring you hard in the face. Ignore us at your peril. |
