Biography |
|
|
Hailing from Essex, England the five guys
who are JUNK came together in early 2002 blending their various
influences from the Foo Fighters and Everclear to Redd
Kross and Cheap Trick. In writing some of the catchiest
Guitar-Pop/Punk tunes heard in years they quickly attracted the
attention of major Record Producers and Hollywood Studios who've helped
their songs reach millions. In fact, you've likely already heard them at
the cinema! |
Having been good mates since grade school and
playing in different bands in Chelmsford and Colchester since their early
teens, it was just a matter of time before they came together as JUNK.
Within weeks of recording their initial set of demos, a representative
from BMI in London heard their cut "Green Hair" and sponsored a showcase
trip to New York where they were quickly snapped up by Spirit Music
Publishing (Lou Reed, Brian Wilson, Tricky, Scissor Sisters).
Spirit Executives were so captivated by JUNK's songcraft and live show
that they immediately flew them out to Los Angeles to play for top record
producers. What was meant to be a one week run turned into a three month
stay as the legendary producer, Ed Stasium (The Ramones, Talking Heads,
Blondie) jumped at the chance to work with the guys.
While writing and recording in LA, JUNK continued to play out live on the
Sunset Strip at clubs such as The Roxy, The Viper Room and The Whisky a Go
Go. Word started to spread amongst the Hollywood Film Studio community who
came to see them live and within months their music was featured in the
soundtracks of dozens of movies and television programs such as Sony's
"Anger Management", NBC's "Providence" and MTV's "Clone High, USA."
Each time they came back to England to consider launching their first
major tour and vying for a label deal, another offer from Hollywood was
put forth. The ABC Network used a tune to promote their entire winter 2004
line-up, Fox's "Tru Calling" featured several tracks and even the Olsen
Twins have had their fill. With one offer came the opportunity to record
with Producer Philip Steir (No Doubt, Korn, New Order) While working on
the music for MGM’s “Agent Cody Banks” Philip was so taken with their
track “Life Is Good” that he placed it in the film and offered to record a
full album with the band.
With a stellar LP and a dozen B-sides in their hands, JUNK are finally
back in Essex where they've been playing to a rapidly growing fan base
supporting bands such as The Mooney Suzuki and Read Yellow. Now signed
with indie label 1970 Recordings, the band will be releasing a series of
singles and touring in support in the coming months. The first track going
to radio "So Hard", is already being featured in the upcoming film
"Employee of the Month" starring Christina Applegate and Matt Dillon.
