When
CJ was bumped out of The Wildhearts
back in 1994, he hooked up with another former ‘heart, Willie Dowling
(also ex-The Grip and Catpeople) and formed Honeycrack.
Though not a million miles away from The Wildhearts musically, CJ’s
love of sugary-pop melody and Willie’s more muso-orientated approach
worked very nicely indeed, and their only proper studio album,
‘Prozaic’ still stands up today as a blinder of an album.
They were greeted like heroes at the infamous Phoenix ’95 festival
(the year that a wandering Mark Keds forced The Wildies to cancel their
headlining appearance at the last minute), and in 1996 they played the
Donington Monsters Of Rock festival, on a bill that included Kiss,
Ozzy and Korn.
Restless Willie couldn’t settle for long though, and he was soon off
to form the SugarPlumFairies
and later The Celebrity Squares,
while CJ became a Jelly
before rejoining the reformed Wildhearts.
