Formed in the summer of 1998, when brothers,
Scott (drums & vox) & Daz Lawson (guitar & vox) teamed up with beverage
supping buddy Craig Reynolds (guitar & vox), with the aim to create
something fresh, distinctive & imaginative. The band drew on influences
from the likes of Supergrass, The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Jellyfish,
Bowie, Faith No More, T Rex and Blur etc but maintained their
punkish attitude & twat-ish sense of humour - all big guitars smothered
in a cheapo plastic pop coating. |

DIP released their debut EP
'Cheapo Plastic Prize' late 1999, and whilst Daz had no qualms about
openly confessing to being 'Scared 'o' Telephones', bassist Dean was
unable to admit to his new found phobia for recording studios and shortly
afterwards quit the band a quivering wreck never to be seen again. The CD
however was met with positive reviews and DIP were asked to contribute two
tracks to a compilation CD from the Badpenny record label.
From here the search was on for Dean's replacement and after what seemed
like an age of bounding along as a three piece (with Daz and Craig sharing
guitar and bass duties) the vacant position was filled by Rob Lane. DIP
now had a whole new outlook, focusing on putting the fun back into live
music and making their live shows as memorable as possible, as well as a
fresh and unique comic book, cartoon onstage image which has allowed them
to stand out from the endless stream of shoe gazing guitar bands.
With a strong and loyal fan base, affectionately known as the DIP ARMY,
rapidly growing throughout the country due to gigs all over the UK and via
their popular website 'OYAH?' Online, as well as endorsement from well
rounded Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles, the band headed back in the studio over
summer 2002 to record their follow up EP 'GIZZAGOO - Be the Envy of your
Friends'. Released in November on the bands own label F-Rydoff Recordings,
the six track mini-album has been well received by the music press
including reviews in Kerrang! and airplay on Total Rock Radio with its
equal doses of guitar driven pop combined with dark and quirky slices of
melody. |
