Final Update -
Monday July 14th 2003 |
|
It is with deep sadness that we have to
report the passing of Danny Frye. He died Saturday July 12th from
diabetic complications. Danny was a fantastic guitarist with outstanding
vocal skill, his debut album 'Hellbent' has already been hailed as one
the great RnR records and it is some comfort that the magic of the man
will live on in his music.
For those of us at FiveMilesHigh lucky enough to have been involved in
his only UK tour in December 2001 he will be fondly remembered for his
wicked sense of humour, gentle kindhearted nature and for being one of
the most genuine people we had the pleasure of working with.
He will be very sorely missed. Here's to you Danny, and thank you. |

Biography |
Danny Frye and The D-Doll's came along at a time in music when the failing heartbeat of rock and roll
was crying out for some leather clad Defribulators.
Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, the band played a unique brand of straight up rock and roll that incorporated a blend of punk, 50's rock, and 70's sleaze, generating a musical déjà vu
that left you pumping your fists in the air! The bands influences ranged from
Social Distortion to T. Rex, and everything in between.
Front man, Danny Frye, was the ex-lead guitarist for
Sylvain Sylvain (New York Dolls), one of the great punk
rock pioneers and his credentials read like a who's who of punk rock
history. He shared the stage with everyone from
The Ramones, Joan Jett, members of the Stooges and
the Gang of Four.
Danny and his wild band of hellbent suicide rockers
including guitarist David Lee Carpenter, bassist Keith Ignition, and drummer Frank Garisto
(Jani Lane and The Underdogs) were on a mission to ignite a music industry that had been overrun by manufactured pop acts and nu metal bands.
The D-Doll's released two CDs in their two years together including their Lucky 13 Records full length debut,
Hellbent, which has been described as a 48 minute roller coaster ride of pop ridden rock and roll and a split
EP
Raised On Pinups with the Swiss band, The Gutter Queens, released on the
Changes One label in the autumn of 2002.
Danny sadly passed away in the summer of 2003 (see the news article
above). |
